1. What is the difference between CALMAC and CADMAC?
CALMAC handles MA&E issues for programs fielded since January 1, 1998, while CADMAC addresses MA&E issues for program fielded between January 1, 1994 and December 31, 1997. The CADMAC evaluations were governed under the PROTOCOLS AND PROCEDURES FOR THE VERIFICATION OF COSTS, BENEFITS, AND SHAREHOLDER EARNINGS FROM DEMAND-SIDE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS (Protocols) (Click for Download) while the CALMAC evaluations were not.

2. Who created CALMAC and what does it do?
CALMAC was created by the parties involved in measurement and evaluation in California as an unofficial forum for discussing and directing post-Protocol MA&E efforts. For a complete description of what CALMAC does, please refer to the CALMAC home page.

3. Who are the members of CALMAC?
The members of CALMAC are the four California investor-owned utilities, Pacific Gas and Electric, Southern California Edison, Southern California Gas, and San Diego Gas and Electric, and the two state energy agencies, the California Energy Commission and the California Public Utilities Commission Energy Division.

4. What is the process of decision making in CALMAC?
CALMAC is a consensus decision making body. Issues are discussed and debated until consensus is developed.

5. How and why are CALMAC committees formed?
CALMAC committees are formed to address specific needs, either on going (i.e., standing committees such as the MAESTRO and Website committees) or short term ad hoc committees to deal with transient issues. The need for the formation of a committee can be raised for discussion by any member of CALMAC.

6. What are the CALMAC committees?
The CALMAC committee structure is continually changing as needs arise. Please see the CALMAC Committees page in this web site.

7. Downloading Files - How can I accelerate downloads?
Exceptionally large publications can take a while to download. Here is another option for downloading the publication. Instead of single-clicking on the pdf icon link, right-click the link and select "Save Target As...". It will prompt you for a file name and let you save the document locally. The advantage of this method is the ability to monitor the status of the download, since a window pops up showing how much time remains before it is finished.

8. Does this site have a Glossary of evaluation terms?
In a manner of speaking, yes. The CADMAC Protocols - Appendix A - (Click to Download) titled Measurement Terms and Definitions gives a fairly complete summary of evaluation terminology.

9. Who performs the CALMAC sponsored studies?
Each study has a project manager and advisory team consisting of CALMAC members and other experts, as needed. The studies are performed by independent, third-party firms hired by the CALMAC project manager.
